Black Heart (Curse Workers #3)

Cassel Sharpe has the most deadly ability of all. With one touch, he can transform any object – including a person – into something else entirely. And that makes him a wanted man. The Feds are willing to forgive all his past crimes if he’ll only leave his con artist family behind and go straight. But why does going straight feel so crooked?

For one thing, it means being on the opposite side of the law from Lila, the girl he loves. She’s the daughter of a mob boss and getting ready to join the family business herself. Though Cassel is pretty sure she can never love him back, he can’t stop obsessing over her. Which would be bad enough, even if her father wasn’t keeping Cassel’s mother prisoner in a posh apartment and threatening not to let her leave until she returns the priceless diamond she scammed off him years ago. Too bad she can’t remember where she put it.

The Feds say they need Cassel to get rid of a powerful man who is spinning dangerously out of control. But if they want Cassel to use his unique talent to hurt people, what separates the good guys from the bad ones? Or is everyone just out to con him?

(My Opinion)

Black heart is the last book in the curse workers trilogy (sadly. I want more books in this series so good!) The series is told from the perspective of Cassel Sharpe. The idea for this book is kind of expected but there are quite a few surprises that keep it interesting. Most of the characters are great, I think that Cassel and his brother, Barron step out of their comfort zones and do things out of the rightness of their hearts. But, there are a few characters that I think are stiff, choppy, and just boring. I was expecting to be overwhelmed with excellence but all I got was mediocre.

Believe it or not, this book is my least favourite in the series. I’m not sure if it’s because I had really high hopes for it or if I knew a lot about Cassel’s world that small shockers didn’t shock me and threats didn’t make me squeal with joy and excitement. A few of the tricks in the book are pretty predictable and boring, nothing interesting to think about which kind of sucks because I was expecting to be constantly surprised and squealing with excitement.

IT IS VERY HARD TO PUT THIS BOOK DOWN. I couldn’t let it out of my grasp for more than twenty minutes before I started to get antsy about all the fun that awaited me in the book. The relationship between Cassel and Lila is pretty intense. Holly Black does a great job keeping it interesting between the characters. It could go either way for them which I like since it kept me guessing. I love the writing style for this series. Just reading Black Heart makes me feel like I actually am Cassel Sharp which is something I think every writer wants to achieve with their readers. Not all of the twists and cons that Cassel and his friends pull off are predictable which kept me interested.

Overall, Black Heart is a good read. The characters (for the most part) are fun to read about and really jump off the pages. The writing style is smooth and easy to read. I would recommend this series to EVERYONE. It is amazing and everyone will have a good time reading and laughing at the things and events that happen in this series.

1. And I wonder if anyone is really happy. I hope they are. I really hope they are.

2. “Charlie, we accept the love we think we deserve.”

3. And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.

4. I think it was the first time in my life I ever felt like I looked good. Do you know what I mean? That nice feeling when you look in the mirror, and your hair’s right for the first time in your life? I don’t think we should base so much weight, muscles and a good hair day, but when it happens, it’s nice.

5. But things change. And friends leave. And life doesn’t stop for anybody.

Red Glove (Curse Workers#2) By Holly Black

4.9/5-Almost there, Holly Black. Almost there. Cassel Sharpe and Lila Zacharov’s relationship is amazing because once you think you know whether they’re going to be together or never speak to each other again, Holly Black pulls out yet another trick from her sleeve and you’re left in the dark. I’m starting to really like her.

 (Summary)

Cassel Sharpe thought he was normal until he found out that his older brother manipulated him into doing their dirty work for them. Now, he’s fully aware that he’s a transformation worker-the rarest kind of curse worker out there. Everyone wants him to be on their side, but who can he trust? Lila has been forced to love him because of his mother and he can’t stand to be near here because he doesn’t know how she truly feels about him. When Cassel’s older brother, Phillip is murdered, he has to work with the feds. All he knows is that the killer was wearing red gloves. Can Cassel work with the people he trusts the least, keep the mob happy, and figure out where him and Lila stand?

(My Opinion)

I love this. I loved the plot and the killer, the way he figures everything out. Of course, if you’re reading this review then you already know just how much I love Cassel Sharpe. Because I love him a lot. The plot for this book is surrounded mostly on the relationship between the death of his older brother. The characters’ in this boom (new and old) and amazing and funny with surprises of their own.  The ending was great because even though it seemed like it was slowing down, it really wasn’t. I also liked the ending because it kept me on my toes about what will happen in the next book between Cassel and his loved ones.

Even though this book was amazing the agents that had to work with Cassel felt a bit like they were rushed and I’m still wondering a bit about them. It was a bit tricky for me to remember who was who since they seemed very similar.

Like I’ve said before, I loved the relationship between Cassel and Lila because it’s not like any other romance. Their romance is complicated and a constant roller coaster because they don’t know where they stand with each other. The cons and pranks that they pull off kept me laughing throughout this book. Holly Black really does know how to make things funny as hell. I also loved that I was hooked to this book from the first page It was fast paced, full of cons and romance and a dash of humour.

If you haven’t read, White Cat By Holly Black then you shouldn’t read this book. If you have, then read this book. I love this series because of the humour but also because its original and fast. I recommend this series to anyone who loves to laugh and are looking for a new character to fall in love with. The next book in this series is Black Heart which is out now!

White Cat By Holly Black

4.7/5 This book is amazing. I absolutely loved how Holly Black wrote this book. White Cat is about a seventeen year old guy named Cassel Sharpe. In this series, curse workers are people that are usually working with crime families and make normal people nervous to be around. Since no one can be sure who is a curse worker and who isn’t, everyone is forced to wear gloves all day and all night.

Cassel comes from a very long line of grifters and curse workers. His family is very good friends with one of the biggest crime families in New jersey- the Zacharov’s. But, he decided to run away from the crime life because of the murder of his best friend Lila Zacharov three years ago. He killed her.

Cassel believes that he is the black sheep in his family because he doesn’t have a curse. When he leaves his old life behinds, he goes to a very private, very rich boarding school called Wallingford where he starts having strange dreams about a small white cat. When he almost dies because of one of the dreams he decides to ask his family for answers. But is he really ready to hear them?

What I didn’t like about this book is that it was a bit rushed in the middle and how easily he trusted people I thought would have taken a much longer time for him to trust.

What I love about this book is how huge his mouth is, and his love towards Lila even after all that time. I love how committed he is and how he does the stupidest things to get what he wants. This book is just amazing. Good job, Holly Black.
