Song of the Week#12-Don’t Let Me Cave in by The Wonder Years (School Edition-D)

This is a weekly meme that’s for the most part, the same as Song Of The Week except each week there will be for the alphabet/numbers! and it’s going to be updated once a week. This week’s edition is: D!

The Wonder Years is an American pop punk band from Lansdale, Pennsylvania that formed in June 2005. Since their conception, they have released four full-length albums, two EPs, and several splits/compilations. The group is currently signed to Hopeless Records.

The Wonder Years just understand me. They really do, and I think that since so many young adults can relate to them, the can do no wrong. Seriously, if you like this type of music or never heard of pop punk, then listen to them. You might not like this song but you will respect this band.

My favourite part is:

There comes a day when you rectify
who you are with who you want to be with
And I can’t make the two things co-exist
So don’t let me cave in

You drove me all the way up here
cause you could tell that I was a mess
I wasn’t going to make it to dinner
and I shouldn’t be calling again
You drove me all the way up here
And asked if we could stay in bed
You still got work early tomorrow
and I’ve got a plane to catch
You drove me all the way back

You can listen to Don’t Let Me Cave In here.

Burnout (Deluxe Version) - Anarbor

Anarbor is an American alternative rock band from Phoenix, Arizona that was formed in 2003. They have released four EPs: The Natural Way, Free You mind, The Mixtape, and Let The Games Begin as well as two albums: The Words You Don’t Swallow and Burnout. Current member are: Slade Echeverria (lead vocals, bass guitar) Dave Melillo (lead guitar, backing vocals).

Darker and edgier, Anarbor has brought back music that is known and well-loved, only a step further. Burnout is honestly like a powerful high. It starts off extremely strong with beats and heavy tunes that reel you in right away but the middle is the weak part with a sense of sameness and repetition that falters and a less than stellar ending that leaves you wanting more but then making you think maybe you’ve had enough.

The album starts off very dark and edgy, it’s definitely darker than their old stuff and then shifts over to their pop side that explains their relationship with their record label. For some songs, the strong beginning and then pop chorus works like in Damage I’ve Done and Who Can Save Me Now but for others they fall a bit flat and lose my interest. The back-up vocals in just about every song really ruins it. Especially in Whiskey in Hell which is all around, a bad-ass song but the too high back-up vocals tarnishes it and makes the song a lot less cool. Same thing with the lyrics, unmistakably, the lyrics are fun and dirty but they’re all about the same thing–booze, drugs, and sex. And after a while, those things don’t sound as cool as they once did during the beginning.

What I do like about Burnout is that everything they’ve done has progressed by a lot. It’s evident in their solos in Every High Has A Come Down, 18, and I Hate You So Much just to name a few. The guitar riffs are a lot smoother and better put together as well as for the bass because the bass and guitar are on the same page as the drummer. I was really surprised with the drumming, I wasn’t expecting it to be so powerful and demanding in Every High Has A Come Down, Whiskey in Hell, and I Don’t Love You Anymore it’s wild and I love it. The vocals are stronger and rougher which is shown in many of the songs. I’m really happy with how much these guys have grown!

Overall, Burnout isn’t a bad album. It’s good, it has some killer solos and duets that keep the album fun. There are a few notable songs that everyone will love and enjoy because of the bad-ass attitude they have. But somewhere along the way, the songs start to merge together and lose my attention. However, I like this album and my favourite songs are: Every High Has A Come Down, 18, Whiskey in Hell, and Take My Pain Away. I recommend this to long time Anarbor fans as well as anyone looking for some fun songs about getting high and drunk without minding the hangover that might come with it.

(My Opinion)

All Time Low never fails to impress me. I mean, the same four guys for almost ten years, releasing great music annually  and going on tours 24/7? Almost unheard of in the music world. The lyrics are catchy (like always) and the melody is beautiful. Rian does an awesome job keeping the songs at a perfect speed while Jack and Zack do a great job bringing out Alex’s awesome voice. After the disappointment Dirty Work brought, I for one can say that I wasn’t looking forward to this album but I’m happy I bought it because it’s great. All Time Low is back and with Hopeless Records once again (Finally).

Even though All Time Low is back with the poppy punk music they are known for, there are a few songs that prove that they’re still learning and trying to go back to their old groove. On this album, there are two songs that I don’t like because they are both very repetitive and get really boring after a while. The Irony Of Choking On A Lifesaver is one of their crazy songs that is supposed to be full of humour (in my opinion) and I think that the guys missed their goal with this one. The whole song sounds disorganized like the band is playing one song that should have been two completely different songs. The song is also shallow and boring within the first minute listening which kind of sucks. I also don’t like Backseat Serenade not because of the guest vocalist but because I just don’t like it. Like I’ve said before, it’s a bit annoyingly repetitive without anything that I could hold on to. I wish the band put in more solos to spice up this album a bit.

The message this album gives off always makes me smile because its classic ATL about living in the fast lane and having fun because people who don’t believe in you don’t matter. For most of the songs on this album, the band comes together as a whole and just all around compliment each other, Alex’s vocals are amazing and keep up with the speed that Rian sets while Jack and Zack out together a beautiful melody that’s not only catchy, but kind of amazing as well. I also love most of the lyrics because they’re so light and open enough to be an interest for all music lovers yet they are full of meaning at the same time. Jason Vena and Alex Gaskarth should do more duets together because they compliment each other perfectly. It took me a while to even notice that there are two different voices singing in Outlines because they sound so good together.

Overall, All Time Low knows what they want and what their fans need from them. A great album from a great band that I recommend everyone to give a listen to. Currently, I am in love with three songs on Don’t Panic and they are: To Live And Let Go, The Reckless And The Brave, and Paint You Wings. An album that’s about being young and ‘long live the fast times’ that make us who we are.

4 Sexy Treble Clefs

Song Of The Day#14-Mr. Big Shot By Anarbor

I was searching for music by The Maine on YouTube and that brought me to We Are The In Crowd which led me to Anarbor. Honestly, the first time I heard one of their songs, I thought they wouldn’t be a band I would like. And then I heard this song and I was just like “Nevermind. I love them, they’re great. Make more music so I can buy it.” It also didn’t hurt that I found one of the members really cute. I bought Mr. Big shot and Useless by Ananbor on Itunes. Lucky for you, you can get them for free.

Anarbor is an American alternative rock band from Phoenix, Arizona that was formed in 2003. They got signed to Hopeless Records while still in high school. They were known as ‘Troop 101’ but thankfully changed their name to Anarbor. Mr. Big Shot is off of their third album, The Words You Don’t Swallow which came out in 2010.

Mr. Big Shot is a song about proving someone wrong while making them look like a fool. This song is fast-paced and really catchy. I love dancing to it and singing along because it’s just that good. It’s also about kicking ass and showing that you’re awesome and that person is ‘just a baby.’

My favourite part is:

Someday, you’ll come knockin’ on my door.
And I’ll leave you lonely,
I don’t want you anymore.
My bones are stronger than before.
So don’t come ’round my way,
I’ll kick your ass right out the door.
I’ll kick your ass right out the door.
