Song of the Week (Revamped) #16-The bells by Lowell

song of the week revamped

Song of the Week is a weekly meme of some of my current favourite songs or songs that I can’t get out of my head. Leave your favourite songs and I’ll be sure to check them out.

If you don’t know this girl or this song then it’s official. You live under a rock. It’s been almost 9 months since I’ve heard it before these past 2 weeks and I clearly remember why it quickly became a favourite for me. With such a chill beat and cute yet psycho girl vibe, the creepy lyrics just reminds me of a pop grunge era. It’s sweet and strange and hella repetitive which I hate but sounds right in The Bells.

Favourite part:

Hey! Where’d the beat go?
Beat go
Where’d the beat go?
Beat go
Where’d the beat go?

The bells, the bells, the bells, the bells, and
The bounce, the bounce, the bounce, the bounce,
And the bells, the bells, the bells, the bells, and the beat

Beat go

Song of the Week (Revamped) #11-The Distance by Cake

song of the week revamped

Song of the Week is a weekly meme of some of my current favourite songs or songs that I can’t get out of my head. Leave your favourite songs and I’ll be sure to check them out.

Cake is an American alternative rock band from Sacramento, California.

All alone (All alone!!!) Cake is one of the best bands ever. Known for their talking rather than singing vocals and heavy trumpet pieces, what’s not to like? The song really makes you want to ‘go the distance’ for whatever it may be.

Favourite part:

The fans get up and they get out of town.
The arena is empty except for one man,
Still driving and striving as fast as he can.
The sun has gone down and the moon has come up,
And long ago somebody left with the cup.
But he’s driving and striving and hugging the turns.
And thinking of someone for whom he still burns.

He’s going the distance.
He’s going for speed.
She’s all alone
In her time of need.
Because he’s racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He’s fighting and biting and riding on his horse,
He’s going the distance.

Song Of The Day#61-To Build A Home Ft. Patrick Watson By The Cinematic Ochestra

Album_ma_fleur_cover

If you asked me why I love this song so much, I don’t think that I could give a straight answer since I’m not exactly sure myself. I feel very…I’m not even sure how to describe it maybe intrigued? Or pulled towards this song. Without even noticing it, I’d be singing a few verses, swaying back and forth, completely tuned into the music playing around me yet invisible to the people around me.

The Cinematic Orchestra  is a British jazz and electronic band, created in 1999. Currently, the band has four released albums. To Build A Home is off of their third album, Ma Fleur.

My favourite part is:

There is a house built out of stone
Wooden floors, walls and window sills…
Tables and chairs worn by all of the dust…
This is a place where I don’t feel alone
This is a place that I call my home…

You can listen to To Build A Home Here.

Song Of The Day#59-Paradise Circus By Massive Attack

Massive_Attack_Heligoland

Just forget the music and really listen to the vocals and the lyrics. The second I did this, instant goosebumps. It’s so sad and so true about a memory of mine.

Massive Attack is an English rock/pop band from Bristol, England formed in 1988. currently, the band has released five albums. Paradise Circus is from their album, Heligoland.

My Favourite Part is:

Love is like a sin, my love,
For the ones that feel it the most
Look at her with her eyes like a flame
She will love you like a fly will never love you again

Song Of The Day#58-Hello My Old Heart By The Oh Hello’s

4254669298-1

To be honest, I haven’t listened to this song in about a week. But I thought that it was a good song that people will enjoy.

“The Oh Hellos are Maggie and Tyler Heath, intentionally-independent self-produced music-making siblings hailing from the great state of Texas.”-Taken from the band’s bandpage.

Hello My Old Heart is very much a folk kind of song about seeing your ‘old heart’ again which is pretty much your old love.

My favourite part is:

nothing lasts forever
some things aren’t meant to be
but you’ll never find the answer
until you set your old heart free

Song Of The Day#56-Beautiful Soul by Noelle Johnson

384263070-1

What a fun song that makes me think about blue skies, sunny days, and happiness. So all around just a very happy day. Even without the lyrics, the song is just too hard to resist with its fast pace notes and sweet melodies.

Noelle Johnson is a folk/indie singer/ songwriter. Beautiful Soul is her first EP that is realised.

My favourite part is:

why are you spending all your time on it
Worrying about things, things that they say to you
You are not too big, and you’re not the ugly little thing
That you think you see across from you in the mirror
Love yourself and it will be one small step, but one giant leap
For woman kind

Song Of The Day#55-Knee Deep By Lydia

Lydia-Devil-200x200

Lydia was the first band that I posted about when I first started this meme. In anticipation for their upcoming album, Devil, I’m going to post another song y this band. I’m also posting this song a day after it was released to the public just because this band that much. Are you going to their North American Tour in the spring? I am. You should too if you know what’s good for you.

Lydia is an indie rock band from Gilbert, Arizona that was formed in 2003. In 2010, the band took a year-long hiatus because of a fight that was between Steve McGraw and Leighton Antelman. Currently, the band has four albums released with a fifth coming up. Knee Deep is off of their upcoming album, Devil.

Knee Deep is just so precious! The band has headed in a new direction, using different types of techno beats. Such an addicting song. I know that it just came out two days ago, but I’ve listened to this song at least a hundred times already.

My favourite part is:

Everything I learned I’ll soon forget it.
You tell me I fucked up well I guess I did then.
Just take me back to that day.

I don’t want to wait, I don’t want to wait, I don’t want to wait.
So I take my time. I take my time.
I don’t want to wait, I don’t want to wait, I don’t want to wait.
So I take my time. I take my time.
But if you stay it might get cold.

you can listen to Knee Deep here.
